Conference Charity

Each year INA selects a local based charity to support through the proceeds raised from our annual 50/50 raffle, with the other half of all monies earmarked for the INA Membership Conference Endowment.  The 2014 Conference Charity is Alexandria House.

Founded in 1996, Alexandria House is a non-profit transitional residence and house of hospitality providing safe and supportive housing for women and children in the process of moving from emergency shelter to permanent housing. Located in the densely populated and ethnically diverse Mid-Wilshire area, Alexandria House also serves its broader neighborhood community by providing educational and enrichment opportunities for residents and neighbors alike.

In response to the compelling needs of the women and children living in the house, as well as the neighborhood needs before us each day, the goal of Alexandria House is to be a community-oriented transitional house and neighborhood center which is intentionally multicultural, antiracist and where the needs of women who are economically poor are central.

Alexandria House is a transitional residence for single women and women with children in the process of moving from emergency shelter to permanent housing. We provide hospitality to approximately 24 women and children depending on family size. Women living in Alexandria House benefit from a supportive community and an encouraging environment. Residents meet monthly with a case manager to ensure that they are making progress towards their established goals, as well as to identify their need for services and resources.

Weekly house meetings also provide an opportunity to share personal successes and hopes and at the same time build community. Alexandria House’s transitional housing program offers financial management, goal setting processes, childcare, counseling, healthcare, and access to other resources such as job search assistance, education, legal counsel, advocacy, and skill-building.

Over 80% of the women who have moved through the program have succeeded in securing financial stability and permanent housing.

Alexandria House is committed to changing the systematic injustices that keep women and children homeless and living in poverty. We engage residents and neighbors in community organizing activities and exercise our rights to peaceably gather to protest unjust social policies and systems.

INA attendees take part in our popular raffle during conference, which donors generously donate great products and services.   Attendees have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for these prizes, and INA donates 50% of the proceeds to our Charity of Choice, and the other 50% goes toward the INA Endowment Fund, creating scholarships for members to attend conference.

If you are not able to attend conference, and still wish to donate to Alexandria House, you can do so via their website

INA Nanny of the Year™ Award

The Nanny of the Year™ (NOTY) award is presented annually by the International Nanny Association (INA) to recognize the personal achievements of a working nanny. INA’s Nanny of the Year™ (NOTY™) serves as an example of the best kind of nanny and represents a positive role model for our industry and association. The NOTY™ is expected to perform specific duties before, during and after the INA Annual Conference.

INA Service Award Pins

Individuals who have been employed as a nanny, nanny educator or business owner (referral agency or industry service provider) for five or more years and are currently an INA member in good standing may apply for an INA Service Award Pin.

The Harriette Grant Service Award Pin will be presented to nannies and specialty nannies. This pin, named in honor of Harriette Grant, reflects Harriette’s dedication to the nanny profession. Ms. Grant was a founding member of INA, a founding member of the Association of D.C. Area Nannies (ADCAN) and INA’s very first Nanny of the Year™ in 1990. She later went on to be a co-founder of the National Association of Nannies (NAN).

The INA Service Award Pin will be presented to nanny educators, referral agency owners (or their staff) and business owners (or their staff) who serve the in-home child care industry.

The Service Award Pin program originated within the National Association of Nannies. Thanks to the dedication and generosity of past NAN members, the service award pin concept will continue on in INA, sharing the same goal of recognizing those within the in-home child care industry for their hard work, dedication and commitment to professional excellence.
