Showing appreciation for the people around you goes a long way – especially when it comes to your nanny. Your nanny invests time and energy into their job and making sure that you recognize them for a job well done is important. Not only does it make them feel seen and heard, but it also helps build trust and loyalty. Here are some creative ways to thank your nanny this year.
#1: A bonus or raise.
As we begin 2022, it’s a good time to evaluate your nanny’s wages and benefits. When was the last time they got a raise? Increasing their hourly rate and/or providing additional benefits is important. Fair pay and benefits are some of the best ways to reduce nanny turnover and keep your employee satisfied with their position within your family.
#2: Paid time off.
Time is something that we always seem to need more of. Giving the gift of paid time off is one of the best options to give your employee some rest and relaxation. Whether it’s letting them leave early or giving them a couple of extra days a year to take off, this is a necessary thing to give your nanny. If you decide to give your nanny more than a couple of days, make sure to give them some advance notice in case they want to travel or spend time with family or friends.
#3: Gifts from the kids.
Personalized gifts – especially from the kids that your nanny takes care of every day – are always meaningful. Have your children draw or write something heartfelt or have them bake something with you to surprise the nanny with when they show up for work. Or take a picture of the children, frame it, and have the kids decorate the frame. Or, have them write notes about what they love most about your nanny and hang them up on the wall or a door where she will see them. Another idea is to make a book of vouchers for the nanny. It could include vouchers for ‘leaving an hour early’, ‘take out lunch for you and the kids’, or ‘a day of pampering.’
#4: Gift cards.
If you choose to give gift cards, take note of your nanny’s hobbies and interests, so you can gift them according to their tastes and interests. Taking time to get to know your nanny and what’s important to them speaks volumes about your interest in who they are as a person.
#5: The gift of communication.
One of the best things you can do is talk to your nanny. Ask them if there are things that can be improved, or if they have suggestions on how to make things run smoother. Give your nanny the opportunity to voice their satisfaction or their concerns. Keeping an open line of communication at all times is a great way to ensure that issues are addressed before they become problems.
Whether it’s a large gesture, or a simple note of gratitude, a genuine ‘thank you’ to your nanny makes them feel appreciated and valued.
