Week 7 of NOTY Portfolio Process
by Marcia Hall, 2011 INA NOTY
This is it, you have spent the last 6 weeks engulfed in this project and you are about to finish it. This week you will want to gather all your documents making sure you have each and every part you need. You will need to print or copy 4 of everything.
You will need to prepare to submit a digital photograph of yourself (no children in photo) that is professional and of high digital quality. This is a great week to get that done. You do not need to send a hard copy of it with your portfolio but it does make a nice cover for the front. We will ask you to email it to our office when you mail your portfolios.
Remember there are strict Submission Guidelines on pages 16 and 17 of the 2015 Nanny of the Year Award Nomination Packet.
You need to adhere to the guidelines when it comes to number of words and pages. Be sure to put them in order and make them look professionally appealing. You might want to create pages with section headings so it is easy to distinguish each section of the portfolio. Here is the basic outline.
Section 1: Cover Letter
Section 2: Pages 1&2 of the Nomination Form AND Pages 1&2 of the Application Form
Section 3: Essay Questions from Page 3 of the Nomination Form
Section 4: Essay Questions from Page 3 of the Application Form
Section 5: Professional History
- Work History
- Certificates and Documentation
- Publications and Presentations (if you have these)
- Media Appearances and Awards (if you have these)
Section 6: Written Letters of Reference
Section 7: Photo Journal (Optional)
Section 8: Nominator’s Certification Form and Candidate’s Certification Form
Four copies of everything will need to be made. If you have a printer you can do this at home but you can also take all the documents to an office store and have them print or copy what is needed. After that is done, check it twice and check it a third time. Maybe you even want to have someone else look at it all again. But when you are ready take all four copies to the office supply store and ask them to bind it with a spiral plastic cover.
Most office supply stores will actually print, bind and mail the portfolios for you. This might be a cost effective solution for our international candidates as the cost and extra time it takes to mail packages from overseas is much higher. If you are considering this option, contact the INA office and let us know you are making plans to do this. We will help you find an office supply store close to our INA office to make it simple.
This year your NOTY portfolios are all DUE BY January 10th so depending on the method you use to mail the package you might want to be sure they are in the mail by January 1st, 2015. It is also important that you select an option where you can track the package should something unforeseen happen. That way you can find out where it is and re-route it.
Email your head-shot to memberservices@nanny.org. Put “NOTY head-shot” in the subject line. You then mail the four portfolios to:
International Nanny Association
P.O BOX 18126
CHARLOTTE, NC 28218
Next, go and celebrate your accomplishment for completing the 2015 Nanny of the Year nomination process.
INA will be conducting the background checks and starting the first part of the selection process. Anyone who completes the NOTY Portfolio will also have to clear a background check, have an initial portfolio review and be registered for conference to be officially considered a NOTY Nominee. You will be notified by January 30h if you are selected and an official 2015 NOTY Nominee. After that date the selection committee will contact you for an interview and begin speaking to your references. If you are chosen as 2015 Nanny of the Year you will be notified by March 10th so that you can prepare.
Good Luck!
